Jury trials matter because they require the Commonwealth to prove its case and allow the defense to test the evidence in open court. We share select case results to promote transparency about our courtroom work and to reinforce how the justice system is designed to function when serious allegations are litigated. Prince William County, Virginia — Following a five-day jury trial in Prince William County Circuit Court, a jury returned verdicts of not guilty on all charges against a defendant accused of aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties.
The defense was led by Seth Q. Peritz of Crowley Peritz LLP.
During the trial, the defense presented evidence challenging the reliability and consistency of key testimony, offered expert testimony of its own, and highlighted weaknesses in the Commonwealth’s proof. After nearly ten hours of deliberation, the jury returned unanimous verdicts acquitting the defendant on all counts.
“We are grateful for the jury’s careful attention to the evidence and their commitment to the presumption of innocence,” Peritz said. “This case reflects the importance of allowing serious allegations to be tested fully and fairly through the adversarial process.”
Due to the sensitive nature of the allegations, the firm is not releasing additional details and asks that the client’s privacy be respected.
